Throughout her career Nancy Morgenstern worked in medical and educational settings and found her work to be extremely fulfilling. However, She needed a new challenge. In medical and education settings it seemed that the focus had become the paperwork, rather than the patient or student, and the progress was slow. She desired a setting in which the focus was on the client, rather than the paperwork.
Nancy thought of her mentor, Dr. Rosalie Smith, a former college professor, who opened her heart and home to her students. Dr. Smith was passionate about her teaching and corporate clients who worked with her to modify their accents and enhance their voices. Nancy had always had an interest in meeting people from different cultures and had worked with voice patients over the years in ENT offices and hospitals. Throughout her career Nancy has conducted voice and pronunciation workshops/classes.
In preparation for the transition Nancy enrolled in several accent modification training programs taught by psycholinguists. This training, coupled with her experience in speech pathology, led to the founding of Global Accent Reduction Service (GARS) in 1991.
Her first clients were from ABB Atom/Combustion Engineering, seven engineers from Sweden who wanted to sound more American: the president, high level managers and trainees. Global Accent Reduction Service was open for business.
SPEAKBEST LLC evolved from Global Accent Reduction Service. GARS addressed the accent modification needs of non-native professionals in the greater Hartford area. Over the years native and non-native professionals expressed an interest in more comprehensive speech coaching. In response to these requests, on February 16, 2000 SPEAKBEST LLC was founded by Nancy Morgenstern, Principal and communication training was expanded to service clients throughout Connecticut.
